About our congregation
Our History:
- Wheelers Hill Uniting Church was established July 19th, 1891 as a Presbyterian Church. Mr. John Brown offered a site on his Ferntree Gully Road property.
- In 1892 Sunday School commenced.
- In 1971 four blocks of land adjacent to the Church were purchased with the view of future expansion.
- February 4th, 1979, Mr. Alex Johnston turned the first sod to commence building the new church.
- On March 17th the old wooden Church was set back 25 feet and turned 180 degrees as required by Waverley Council (now Monash) and for incorporating Stage 2 of the building project. This was the Worship Centre and a Child Care Centre, which is now utilised by Montersori kindergarten.
- On September 9th, 1979 Wheelers Hill Uniting Church Celebration Centre was officially opened.
- It was the first Church to be built after the creation of the Uniting Church.
Wheelers Hill Uniting Church has continuously been an active church since its opening.
Throughout the years it has seen many ministers and parishioners pass through its doors. There have also been many changes through the journey of sharing God’s message to the community.
Beginning as a rural church, Wheelers Hill Uniting Church is now a suburban church.
We are a small congregation that is diverse, vibrant, big-hearted, intergenerational, welcoming and caring.
Our traditional worship service at 10.30 AM each Sunday is followed by a relaxed and friendly morning tea, held in the original Weatherboard Hall on the site. A special time to share and listen to the ups and downs of our daily lives.
Communication and Pastoral care are a priority.
